February 14th Meeting

Our members were charged with a theme on Something Romantic, the date of our meeting having fallen on St. Valentines Day.

"Ted" Lunn came up with some philatelic coverage of various European Royal Marriages. Our President, Peter Arnett, displayed a theme based on the Romance of the Cinema with a series of Postcards depicting many of the most famous artistes to have graced the Silver Screen, Spencer Tracey and Rita Hayworth to name

but two.  Peter enquired, with it being 14th February, if any of us had a date, but, just in case we didn't, presented us with a box

of Pitted dates which went down a treat !!   Robin Stenhouse talked us through a South Pacific expedition of Captain Cook which included an

an insight into the uninhibited sex lives of the Tahitian native girls which was seen to be of great advantage by the crew of his ship.

Stuart Hogg stayed strictly on the Romantic Theme and displayed GB stamps with a connection to Romance  including some

Robert Burns's commemorative FDC's and a recitation of, "My Love Is Like A Red Red Rose".   Stuart also displayed a very colourful

and complete history of the U.S.A. "Love" stamp which was launched in 1973, which, after a hiatus of eight years, was to become

a regular issue bearing many different designs.   The purpose of these stamps, usually issued in time for St. Valentine's was

to be attached to envelopes bearing the likes of love letters, wedding invitations, anniversaries or other sentimentalities.

The next meeting, Our Spring Social, will be held at Osgodby Community Centre and will be limited to Members and their Guests.

This will take place at the usual time of 19.00hrs  while our April Auction on 8th April will be held in the afternoon - viewing from

13.00hrs with the sale to commence at 14.00hrs.
